After many months of planning, and with the able assistance of the Rowland Emett Society and Birmingham City Council, we’re pleased to say that the ‘Mechanical Things’ exhibition at Birmingham’s Thinktank Science Museum is now up and running!
The show has as its centrepiece our artwork, A Quiet Afternoon in the Cloud Cuckoo Valley, but the organisers have pulled together what can only be described as the largest ever display of its kind in the UK. In addition to our own collection, we are privileged to have on loan the fabulous flying car from the 1968 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie (courtesy of its owner, Lord Bamford), a selection of other Emett-designed machines from the movie (courtesy of the Ziff Collection), plus a breath-taking array of weird and wonderful automata (many courtesy of MAD Museum in Stratford-upon-Avon). There is even an example of Rowland Emett’s early oil painting on display.
Please try to spare the time over the coming months to visit the exhibition. It is well worth the trip! The show runs until early March next year.
